Franklin is a city (city ) in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. It has 8,405 inhabitants and is located in Merrimack County. The town also includes the West, where Franklin.
Geography
The city has an area of 75.5 km ², of which 71.4 km ² land and 4.1 km ² (5.45 %) of water. The city is located in the catchment area of the rivers / streams Winnipesaukee, Pemigewasset and Merrimack River. In the north of the city lies the Webstersee. An unnamed hill in the northeastern area of 418 m above sea level is the highest mountain in Franklin.
History
1764 the site has been inhabited and was originally called Pemigewasset Village. In honor of Benjamin Franklin, the town was renamed in 1820. 1828 Franklin was elevated to a town in 1895 to a city.
