The 1805 built wooden post office building is still preserved, but was rebuilt at a different location in the city.

Robert C. Schenck was born on October 4, 1809 in Franklin. He became in 1843 member of the State of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives in the year and was re-elected several times. During the Civil War he became brigadier general. Robert Schenck died in 1890.

Franklin was an independent municipality in 1814 and 1951 raised to town.
