Franklin Parish, Louisiana
The Franklin Parish (French: Paroisse de Franklin ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 20 767 inhabitants and a population density of 12.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Winnsboro, named after Walter Winn, a lawyer.
Geography
The Parish is located in northern Louisiana, is in the north about 70 miles from Arkansas, to the east about 40 km away from Mississippi and has an area of 1646 square kilometers, of which 31 square kilometers of water surfaces. It is bordered by the following Parishes:
History
The Franklin Parish was formed in 1843 from parts of Carroll Parish, Catahoula Parish, Madison Parish and Ouachita Parish. It was named after Benjamin Franklin.

According to the census of 2000, there were 21 263 people in Franklin Parish. Of these, 789 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 7,754 households and 5,706 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 67.16 percent White, 31.61 percent Black or African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, and 0.15 percent from other races; 0.62 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.75 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 7,754 households out of which 33.9 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.3 percent were married couples living together, 16.5 percent were single mothers, 26.4 percent were non-families, 23.9 percent of all households and 12.2 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.13.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 27.9 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years, 25.8 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 15.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 22,964, and the median income for a family was $ 27,440. Males had a median income of $ 26,305, women $ 16,758. The per capita income was $ 12,675. 23.1 percent of families 28.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. This included 41.4 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years and 25.0 percent of people aged 65 and over.
