Frans Schollaert

François Victor Marie Ghislain Schollaert ( born August 19, 1851 in Wilsele, Brabant, † June 29, 1917 in Sainte-Adresse ) was a Belgian Catholic politician and Prime Minister.

Studies and professional activities

After studying Law and Doctorate Doctor of Canon Law, he worked as a lawyer in Leuven. As such, he was 1893-1895, 1900-1902 and 1904-1906 Chairman of the Bar Association of Lions.

Political career

Member of Parliament and President

Schollaert the Chamber of Deputies in 1888 as a member selected. There he represented until his death in the interests of the Katholieke Partij. In 1890 he was one of the founders of the Farmers' Association.

From 1901 to 1908 and from 1912 until his death in 1917 he was president of the Chamber of Deputies respectively.

Minister and Prime Minister from 1908 to 1911

From 1895 to 1899 he was Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of Jules de Burlet and Paul de Smet de Naeyer.

On January 9, 1908, he was the successor of Jules de Trooz himself prime minister. In his cabinet he was also Minister of the Interior ( 1908-1910 ), Minister of Agriculture ( 1908-1910 ) and Minister for Arts and Sciences ( 1910-1911 ). In his capacity as Prime Minister, he was also after the death of King Leopold II from 17 to December 23, 1909 Office of the Regent of Belgium. On June 17, 1911, he resigned as Prime Minister and was replaced by his party colleague Charles de Broqueville.
