Frans Timmermans

Franciscus Cornelis Gerardus Maria ( Frans) Timmermans ( born May 6, 1961 in Maastricht) is a Dutch politician and since November 5, 2012 as the successor to Uri Rosenthal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. From 1998 to 2007, and from 2010 to 2012 he was a deputy in the national parliament for the Social Democratic Partij van de Arbeid. From 2007 to 2010 Timmermans Secretary IV was for European Affairs in the Cabinet Balkenende

Life

The from a Roman Catholic family coming Timmermans has studied French literature at the Radboud University Nijmegen, and spent a year studying at the University of Nancy. After his degrees, he worked as a visiting lecturer in the Instituut Clingendael. He was also a board member of the European Movement in the Netherlands. Timmermans is married and has four children. His father also worked in the diplomatic service of the Netherlands, his grandfathers worked as miners.

Political career

Frans Timmermans had already worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and the Dutch Embassy in Moscow. From 1994 to 1995 Timmermans worked for the European Commissioner Hans van den Broek and from 1995 to 1998 as an advisor and private secretary for Max van der Stoel in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
