František Ševčík

František " Jezek " Ševčík ( born January 11, 1942 in Vilémovice, the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player. For many years he played for Zenit Brno and the Czechoslovak national team on the right wing.

Career

František Ševčík played 1961-1973 in the highest Czechoslovak Hockey League for Zenit Brno. With the club he was 1962-1966 over five consecutive years of Czechoslovak champion and scored in 485 regular season games 172 goals and 108 assists. From 1973 he played in the second-rate first ČNHL, the Czech National League for Baník Karviná and in 1975 for the TJ Železárny Prostějov. Between 1978 and 1982 he was still playing at amateur level in Metru Blansko and in his hometown at Sokol Vilémovice.

Huge successes had Ševčík at international championships. With the Czechoslovak Mr. selection, he won a medal at the Winter Olympics and five medals at World Championships. His first appointment to the national team, he received the Hockey World Cup 1965, where the selection of Czechoslovakia won the silver medal. From this point Ševčík took part each year in the World Cup. Three years later he was called into the squad for the Olympic Winter Games in 1968 and won the silver medal, which was considered at the same time as vice-champion title. In the national jersey Ševčík achieved in 95 international matches 26 goals for Czechoslovakia.
