František Wende

František turning, turning, Franz, ( born June 3, 1904 in Freedom, † 1968 in Bad Harzburg ) was a Czechoslovakian ski jumpers and Nordic combined. He won two bronze medals at the Nordic World Ski Championships.

Career

Turn grew up the son of a cooper and showed an early interest in the then relatively new skiing. From 1924 to 1928 he participated four times at Nordic World Championships or Olympic Winter Games. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix turning point came as a ski jumper and jumped on the normal hill on the 10th Place. For the Nordic World Ski Championships 1925 started turning as Springer and combiners. In the combination, he finished fourth in jumping on the normal hill he won behind his compatriot Dick Wilen and the Norwegians Henry Ljungmann the bronze medal. Two years later, in Cortina d' Ampezzo, he took up at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1927. He won in the individual Nordic Combined behind his compatriots Rudolf Burkert and Otakar Německý the bronze medal. In jumping on the normal hill he finished fifth at the end. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1928 in St. Moritz turn was again included in the squad and launched in individual Nordic combined. However, He missed the scoring ranks and retired. In addition to his international success, he also scored several victories in national championships. After his playing career turning point was in the winter in Spindleruv Mlyn worked as a ski instructor and in the summer, first in Jánské Lázně and Spindleruv Mlyn as a tennis coach, and later in Bad Harzburg in Germany, where he moved. He died there in 1968.
