Franz Ackermann

Franz Ackermann ( born 1963 in Neumarkt -Sankt Veit ) is a German painter.

Life

From 1984 to 1988 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, then from 1989 to 1991 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg Bernhard Blume. In 1991 he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD) for Hong Kong. Since 2001 he is a professor of painting at the Art Academy in Karlsruhe.

2004 Ackermann was nominated for the Hugo Boss Prize. In 2005 he received the " mfi Award Kunst am Bau 2005 " for his wall design with the title The Great Journey in the Munich subway station Georg- Brauchle ring.

Works

The series Mental Maps includes small-scale watercolor and gouache sketches that arise anywhere in the world: on the bus, in the hotel room, on the bench or in the studio. The first mental maps created on a Chinese block of size 13 × 17 cm in Hong Kong. In this size Ackermann also takes back today still like, not all mental maps have exactly this format. The papers show nearly realistic architectural views, biomorphic ornamentation, cartographic moments (eg indicated streets ) mixed with abstract, bright and broken areas of color and geometric constructions. Subjective sensation and experience write a spontaneous and so undermine the original objective claim a card.
