Franz Anton Staudenmaier

Franz Anton Staudenmaier ( born September 11, 1800 Donzdorf; † January 19, 1856 in Freiburg im Breisgau) was a professor of Catholic theology at the universities of Giessen and Freiburg im Breisgau.

Biography

Franz Anton Staudenmaier was the son of a craftsman and began after the school began an apprenticeship with his father. With the support of Count August von Rechenberg and Roth lion but he was able to attend the Latin school in Schwäbisch Gmünd (1814-1818) and the upper secondary school in Ellwangen ( 1818-1822 ). Subsequently, he was included in the Wilhelmstift in Tübingen and studied at the University of Catholic theology. Here he heard the major professors Johann Sebastian Drey of Johann Adam Mohler and ( Tübingen School ). In 1826, Staudenmaier was awarded for his handling of the price problem posed by the Law Faculty of the University of Tübingen on the episcopal elections the price.

After completing his theological studies he joined in 1826 the seminary at Rottenburg am Neckar, and was ordained a priest in 1827. For a year he worked as a chaplain in Ellwangen and Heilbronn, before he received the post of repetitor on Wilhelmstift in Tübingen.

1830 Staudenmaier was appointed professor of dogmatic theology at the newly built Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Giessen. At the suggestion of perennials Maiers the Faculty established the yearbooks for theology and Christian philosophy in which current theological issues should be discussed. From the University of Giessen he joined in 1837 as professor of dogmatic theology at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg. Here he initiated the establishment of the Journal of Theology. In Freiburg Staudenmaier was appointed in 1842 and 1843 Ehrendomherren canon. Because of increasing health complaints had Staudenmaier to retire in 1855 as a professor. A little later he died of a stroke.

In his theological thinking Staudenmaier was under the influence of German idealism and romanticism.
