Franz Fuchsberger

Franz Fuchs Berger (born in September 28, 1910, † 1992) was an Austrian football player. The striker won the Austrian amateur team at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 the silver medal. As a "reward" for his efforts in the Olympics, he was called as the first player from a club from the provinces in the Austrian national team.

Career

Franz Fuchs Berger played at SV Urfahr Linz in Upper Austria's league. The League was then aligned on amateur basis and was not related to the professional Austrian championship in connection, limited at that time only on the Wiener space. With the Urfahranern the striker played for one of the then strongest teams of the state, was in competition with the LASK and Admira Linz. Franz Fuchs Berger was for several years a solid pillar of the Austrian amateur national. His debut was already on September 1, 1930 in a 3-1 victory over Czechoslovakia at Brno. From coach Jimmy Hogan he was taken in 1936 for the Olympic Games in Berlin, where he also was club -mate Karl Wahlmüller accompanied. As a left winger Francis Fuchsberger occurred in all four games of the Austrian team in Berlin for use, but lost in the Olympic final Italy in extra time 1-2. As a "reward" for his outstanding contribution in the Olympic Games of striker Hugo Meisl was also nominated for the professional team. So came on September 27, 1936 against Hungary for the first time a player from a club from the provinces to use one in the Austrian national team.
