Franz Halberg ( born July 5, 1919 in Bistrita, Romania, † June 9, 2013 ) is the founder of chronobiology and the creator of the concept of circadian rhythms.

Life and work

Halberg began his experiments on rhythms within living organisms in the 1940s. At the University of Minnesota, he founded the Chronobiology Laboratories, its director until his death. He worked in almost all areas of research into rhythms of life, and he was able to prove that there is a much longer -term periodicities than the circadian that can extend over many years, even.

He has published alone or together with his associates more than 3000 works.
