Franz-Josef Hermann Bode

Franz -Josef Bode ( born February 16, 1951 in Paderborn ) is a bishop of Osnabrück.

Life

Franz -Josef Bode grew up in Etteln on at Paderborn. In Paderborn, he attended the gymnasium and studied from 1969 Theodorianum there and in Regensburg and Munster Catholic theology.

Bode was ordained in Paderborn on 13 December 1975 and priest and was assistant priest in Lippstadt. After that, he was prefect of the Leokonviktes for the training of priests in the Archdiocese of Paderborn until 1983. 1986 Bode received his doctorate at the Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms- University of Bonn, Dr. theol. He was from 1986 to 1991 worked as a parish priest at St. Mary's church in Fröndenberg.

Franz -Josef Bode was appointed on 5 June 1991 as Titular Bishop of Mattiana and Auxiliary Bishop of Paderborn. The episcopal ordination he received on 1 September 1991 by the Archbishop of Paderborn and later Cardinal Johannes Joachim Degenhardt in Paderborn. Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops of Paderborn Hans Leo and Paul Drewes Consbruch. After that, he was canon and Episcopal Vicar for Priests training.

On 12 September 1995, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Osnabrück. Bode was inaugurated on 26 November 1995. At his inauguration, he was the youngest diocesan bishop in Germany. Franz -Josef Bode from 1996 to 2010 Chairman of the Youth Commission of the German Bishops' Conference and, as such, "Youth bishop," that is, the representatives of the episcopate, which is responsible especially for the youth ministry in Germany. In this function, Bode also celebrated one of the three open worship of World Youth Day 2005 with 100,000 pilgrims on the Hofgartenwiese in Bonn. Since 2010, Bode is chairman of the Pastoral Commission.

The coat of arms square shows in box 1 a red wheel on a silver background, the Diocese of arms of Osnabrück, in box 2, a golden cross on a red background, the "Paderborn cross" of the home diocese Bishop Bode, in box 3 a golden tree on the water on a blue background from the arms of his native village Etteln, and in box 4 of a red heart with cross on a silver background, the " heart Cross Coat Of Arms" by Niels Stensen.

His motto Maior est Deus corde nostro ( "God is greater than our hearts " ) comes from the First Epistle of John (1 Jn 3,20 EU).

Awards

  • Bode is honorary canon of the Paderborn Metropolitan Chapter.
  • 2013 awarded him an honorary doctorate from the University of Osnabrück, the Department of Education and Cultural Studies, and thus the degree of Doctor of Philosophy honorary ( Dr. phil. Hc ). The initiative came from the Institute of Catholic Theology at the University.
