Franz Kaiser

Franz Heinrich Kaiser ( born April 25, 1891 in Wiesbaden, † March 13, 1962 in Wiesbaden ) was a German astronomer.

After finishing high school in Wiesbaden Franz Kaiser studied from 1910 to 1914 astronomy and meteorology at the University of Heidelberg. In his time as an assistant at the Heidelberg Observatory, he discovered 1911-1914 21 asteroids whose names mostly a family or regional reference have. From 1914 to 1918 he worked as a meteorologist in the Army Weather Service. 1915 Emperor Franz doctorate at Max Wolf in Heidelberg with the theme: "On the interpolation method in the measurement of sky shots ". From 1921 to 1925 he was first assistant at the National Observatory in Gdansk.

Emperor Franz founded in 1925 together with Wiesbaden astronomers Astronomical Society Urania eV Wiesbaden and ran a private observatory in Wiesbaden. In 1946 he was appointed lecturer in astronomy at the re-established the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

To him, the asteroid ( 3183 ) Franz Kaiser was named in honor.
