Franz Limmer

Franz Limmer ( born October 2, 1808 in Vienna, Austria Empire, † January 19, 1857 in Timisoara, Empire of Austria ) was an Austrian composer.

Life

The son of a silk manufacturer had as a child violin and guitar lessons and studied at the Conservatory cello with Joseph Hartinger and clarinet with Joseph Friedlowsky. After the successful completion he began training in harmony, figured bass, composition and orchestration at Erasmus Kessler and Ignaz von Seyfried. His first successful composition was a show that was listed in the 1826 Vienna St. Augustine's Church. In his time in Vienna also arose, inter alia, a string quartet, a cello quartet, cello trio and a symphony.

1834 Limmer was appointed conductor of the German Theatre in Timisoara, in the following year Bishop Josef Lonovics of Krivina appointed him as successor to Joseph Kratochwill the choirmaster at the Cathedral of Timisoara. As a result, he composed, inter alia, a sonata for piano and violin in G minor, the jubilant overture, a piano quintet, published by Breitkopf & Härtel, and a Joseph of Róka dedicated Offertory, which was published by Diabelli in Vienna and in Lugoj, Oravita, Arad, Budapest Vienna was performed. Were discovered only recently his Requiem in B and Vespers hymns. In 1845, his opera premiered at the German Theatre in Timisoara The Alpine hut on a libretto of the theater director Alexander Schmidt. The last composition Limmer are his 27 responsory for Holy Week.
