Franz Raschid

Franz Rashid ( born October 18, 1954 in Linz, † October 22, 2010 in Essen ) was a German football player and coach.

The midfielder, who is from the Dinslakener Zeche club VfB Lohberg, played from 1974 to 1988 for 14 years at Bayer 05 Uerdingen and brought it in that time a total of 166 top-flight inserts ( 21 goals ) and 198 second-division inserts ( 30 goals). The " Arabs " as the son of Yugoslavian parents was called because of his dark hair, celebrated with Bayer Uerdingen three times (1975, 1979, 1983), promotion to the Bundesliga and won with the club in 1985 the DFB Cup.

After his playing career Rashid became coach. Shortly after he had made his coaching license, he was for a short time (1990/ 91) coach at Arminia Bielefeld in the Oberliga Westfalen. Then Rashid worked mainly in his native Lower Rhine. After engagements at VfB Homberg and VfB Lohberg he took over in 1998 the club Voerder Gluckauf Möllen, which he led from the county league to B in the national league the Lower Rhine. But after the last climb in the summer of 2006 he resigned already in the first round of the following season from his office.

In summer 2008, Rashid took over as coach at PSV Wesel- Lackhausen and immediately got into his first season in the national league on. In the spring of 2010, Rashid could not agree on a contract extension with the club due to different sporting views so that Rashid stopped at end of season 2010.

He died on 22 October 2010 at the age of 56 from pancreatic cancer.

In honor of Franz Rashid the fan block (Block K) of Grotenburg stadium was renamed to " Franz- Rashid - block ".
