Franz Ries

Franz Ries ( born April 7, 1846 in Berlin, † June 20, 1932 in Naumburg ( Saale) ) was a German violinist, composer, music dealers and music publishers.

Biography

Franz Ries was the youngest son of the violinist and composer Hubert Ries. It was formed under the leadership of his father and Friedrich Kiel in Berlin and at the Paris Conservatoire under Massart and Vieuxtemps to the violinist from, but had to give up the virtuoso career because in 1873 after a short, brilliant career of a nervous suffering and turned then to the music shop to. Work

His compositions include works for violin and piano, chamber music ( string quartets, a string quintet ), orchestral works and songs. In particular, two suites for violin and piano as well as several books of songs have been widely used. As the most important works of Franz Ries two string quartets ( opp. 5 and 22 ) and a string quintet are ( c minor op 28).
