Franz Roubaud

Franz Roubaud (Russian Франц Алексеевич Рубо / Franz Alekseevich Rubo, scientific transliteration Franc Alekseevic Rubo; * 5.jul / June 17 1856greg in Odessa on the Black Sea, .. † March 11, 1928 in Munich, and François Roubaud Ivan or Frants Roubaud ) was a Russian painter. Roubaud was known as a painter of battle scenes and images from the life of the Caucasus.

Curriculum vitae

He was the third of nine children of emigrated from Marseille businessman Alexandre Roubaud and those coming from Clermont- Ferrand seamstress Magdalena Senec.

Ready at the age of six, he began the first character studies, and later spent time studying in the Caucasus. 1877-78 he studied with Carl Theodor von Piloty, Otto Seitz and Wilhelm von Diez in Munich, then even when soldiers Painter Joseph von Brandt. In 1889 he was awarded the title of nobility and was replaced by Tsar Alexander III. and Nicholas II particularly encouraged. He stayed in Paris and St. Petersburg. There he was in the years from 1903 to 1912 professor at the Art Academy. His grave is in the cemetery woman Chiemsee.

Works

The best-known work is the 100 meter long panoramic painting The Siege of Sevastopol (1904 ), for which in Sevastopol own museum was built. More panoramic paintings are the Battle of Borodino (1912; issued since 1962 in the Moscow Panorama Museum of the Battle of Borodino ) and storming the Auls Achulgo (1891 ).
