Franz von Blon

Franz von Blon (* July 16, 1861 in Berlin, † October 21, 1945 in Seilershof, Brandenburg ) was a German composer and conductor.

He was at the age of eight violin lessons. He studied at the Stern Conservatory and at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Berlin.

After his studies he gained first orchestral experience as concertmaster in the orchestra of the Hamburg Stadttheater. After that, he became conductor of the Philharmonic Wind Orchestra Berlin. He was also conductor of the Berlin Musicians. Later he headed the Warsaw Philharmonic. He as a composer of about 30 marches, which are also played internationally much was known. The Dramatic Overture, which he composed in 1931 for the 19th Federal Music Festival in Bern, is attributed to the pioneering works of the symphonic wind music.
