Franz Ziehl

Franz H. Ziehl (* 1857 in Wismar, † 1926 in Lübeck ) was a German bacteriologist and professor in Lübeck.

In further development of the work of Paul Ehrlich, he established a Carbolfuchsin staining for the detection of acid- fast bacilli ( such as the mycobacteria, the pathogens of tuberculosis), which was modified by Friedrich Neelsen and is now known in microbiology as Ziehl- Neelsen staining.
