Franz Zorn von Bulach

Franz Freiherr wrath of Bulach ( born November 20, 1858 in Strasbourg, † January 13, 1925 in Strasbourg ) was a Catholic priest, a diplomat at the Papal Nunciature of Madrid, 1901-1919 Auxiliary Bishop of Strasbourg and Titular Bishop of Erythrae.

Life

The historic Alsace noble family belonging wrath of Bulach was the son of Baron Franz wrath of Bulach (1828-1890), chamberlain of Napoleon III. and deputy of the Bas-Rhin (Bas -Rhin), and his wife Antoinette born Baroness von Reinsbach - Hirtzbach.

Franz wrath of Bulach studied law and worked for a short time in the Foreign Office after the clerkship. Consecrated on August 10, 1891 in Strasbourg to the priesthood, he was appointed to the papal diplomatic service and served as secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Madrid. In this capacity, he is in 1900, depicted in Volume 1, page 527, of the 3 -volume monumental work " The Catholic Church of our time and their servants in word and image " ( Leo -Gesellschaft, Vienna 1900).

Franz wrath of Bulach was instead appointed auxiliary bishop of his home diocese and Titular Bishop of Strasbourg Erythrae on 24 October 1901. He received episcopal consecration on November 3, 1901 in Rome by Francesco Cardinal Satolli ( principal consecrator ) and Curia Archbishop Edmund Stonor and Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val y Zulueta (later famous Secretary Pius X ) as co-consecrators. From 1901 to 1919 he held the office of auxiliary bishop in Strasbourg since 1903, he was also vicar general of the diocese; including the precarious time of the First World War, when the diocese was part of the battle area, and numerous foreign soldiers stayed there. Following the acquisition of Alsace by France in 1919 had to withdraw the bishops practicing under the previous German government. This did Franz wrath of Bulach. He died in 1925 as Bishop Emeritus.

He was appointed by the Emperor as a member of the first chamber of the Diet of the Empire State Alsace- Lorraine.
