Franziskus von Paula Graf von Schönborn

Francis of Paula Cardinal Graf von Schönborn (Czech: František Schönborn; born January 24, 1844 in Prague, † 25 July 1899, at Sokolov ) was Cardinal and Bishop of Budweis and Archbishop of Prague.

Life

Schönborn came from the German noble Schönborn family, his parents were Erwein Damian Hugo Graf von Schönborn- Wiesentheid ( born May 17, 1812 † 12 January 1881) and Christina Maria Josepha Gräfin von Brühl ( born March 28, 1817 † October 23, 1902 ).

He studied in Prague, Innsbruck and Rome law and theology and a doctorate in 1875 from the Gregorian to Dr. theol.

On March 25, 1872 he took minor orders and was on August 7, 1873 subdeacon and deacon on 10 August. The ordination he received on 18 August 1873. From 1875 he worked in plan at Marienbad as a chaplain. In 1879 he was appointed chancellor of 1882 and rector of Prague seminary.

Bishop of Budweis

After the death of Bishop Budweiser January Valerián Jirsík named Franz Joseph I, to which the right of nomination state in his capacity as Emperor of Austria, on August 22, 1883 Francis of Paula Schönborn as his successor.

The papal confirmation of 29 September in 1883 by Leo XIII. followed on 18 November 1883, Episcopal ordination in Prague's St. Saviour's Church by Archbishop Frederick Joseph Prince of Schwarzenberg and on 25 November 1883 in Budweis enthronement.

Archbishop of Prague

After the death of the Archbishop of Prague Frederick Joseph Prince of Schwarzenberg 1885 Francis of Paula Schönborn was appointed as his successor and confirmed the papal July 27, 1885 on May 21.

On May 24, 1889 Schönborn was by Pope Leo XIII. appointed cardinal. As a cardinal priest, he received the titular church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo.

After his death on June 25, 1899 Schönborn was buried in the Prague Cathedral.
