Frappato

The red variety Frappato is in the area of ​​Vittoria grown in the southeast of the island of Sicily ( provinces of Ragusa and Syracuse).

It provides there bright and vibrant reds and for example in the DOC areas Cerasuolo di Vittoria ( DOCG) and Eloro Frappato used. The variety may be sorted to be expanded. Especially frequently it is blended with the grape varieties Nerello Cappuccio, Nerello Mascalese and Nero d'Avola.

Although they can make an excellent complex wine with race and character, demonstrated the very late-ripening vine early 1990s, only 791 hectares. In a study published in 2008, a relationship was established for the Sangiovese grape in Frappato. Due to the not yet unequivocally determined parents of Sangiovese, the exact phylogenetic relationship can not yet be specified.
