Fraroz

Fraroz is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fraroz is located on 948 m above sea level. M., about 14 km east of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a broad plateau between the source of Ain ​​respectively the Val de Mièges and the Jura mountains of Haute Joux.

The area of ​​6.22 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by a plateau, the average 920 meters above sea level. M. lies. History

In the Middle Ages Fraroz belonged to the rule Nozeroy. The village has been granted certain liberties in the 14th century to promote the settlement of the area. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Fraroz was built in the 18th century and has an octagonal choir as well as a remarkable altarpiece from the building time.

Population

With 45 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Fraroz one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 151 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Fraroz was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Bief -des- Maisons after Mignovillard. Further road links exist with Cerniébaud and Billecul.
