Fraxern

Fraxern is a municipality in the district of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg Austria with 660 inhabitants (December 31, 2013).

Geography

Fraxern is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Feldkirch to 817 meters. 54.6 % of the area is forested, 26.7 % of the area Alps. There are no other local villages in Fraxern.

Neighboring communities

Its municipal boundary Fraxern shares with two communities in the Dornbirn district and 4 communes in the district of Feldkirch. Clockwise from the north, these are the starting cities and Hohenems Dornbirn, the communities Viktor Berg, hamlets and Klaus as well as the market town Götzis.

History

Fraxern was first mentioned in 1127 as " Fraxnara ".

1502 came to the double court Rank Weil- Sulz belonging " Frachsneren " together with the rule Feldkirch Austria.

The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria. For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Fraxern heard since the foundation in 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

The coat of arms of Fraxern was created in 1969 after a design by the artist and Schrunser heraldist Konrad Honold.

Churches and chapels

Parish Church of St. James the Elder.

Mentioned in documents was here in 1502 a chapel and parish. Instead of the church of the 17th century took place in the years 1900 to 1911, a new building by Anton Wilhelm and Michael Keckeis together with the master carpenter Simon Eben high.

The municipal council consists of 12 members. Mayor Reinhard Nachbaur of the community list Fraxern. The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 656,311, the municipal expenditure at € 2,246,383. The debt was 2001 2.115.776 €.

Fraxern is the Austrian cherry village. There are about 2,800 cherry trees in the community. Fraxern is known for its fruit brandies, particularly the kirsch.
