Fred Coe

Fred Coe ( born December 23, 1914 in Alligator, Mississippi, † April 29, 1979 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American film, theater and television producer, director and screenwriter.

Life

Coe studied at the Yale Drama School in the years 1938 to 1940. Previously studied at Peabody College in Nashville. He began his television career at the National Broadcasting Company in 1945 in New York City. Coe produced there from 1946 several live programs, such as Philco Television Playhouse, for which he also worked as a director. In addition, he directed a number of TV movies. In 1957 he moved to CBS. Also in the 1950s he began several Broadway play to produce. He remained active until the 1970s as a theater, film and television producer.

In 1966 he wrote the screenplay for the film This Property Is Condemned.

For the film, Thousand Clowns Coe in 1966 was nominated for Best Picture for the Oscars in the category. The film was also his first feature film, which he directed as a director.

1956 and 1980, he was posthumously awarded each won an Emmy Award.

Coe was married twice, from each couple had two children were born.
