Fred Fish

Fred Fish (* November 4, 1952, † April 20, 2007 in Idaho, USA) was an American computer programmer. He is best known for his work on GNU Debugger (GDB ) and especially with its collection of public-domain software for the Commodore Amiga, the AmigaLibDisks called Fish disks.

Life

Mid-1980s had begun for the Amiga to collect free software ( freeware or shareware ) and on diskette, the Fish disks together, Fred Fish. These were mainly sold by Amiga magazines, but also from mail-order companies and barter exchanges worldwide. As computer networks at that time were not yet widespread, Fred Fish Fish developed his discs a significant contribution to the dissemination of software for the Amiga. In addition to Fred Fish, there were several other suppliers of Amiga freeware, but mostly together presented their collections from the Fish disks.

The AmigaLibDisks series includes 999 issues. They contain both user programs and games. Later Fred Fish published under the name of Cronus and software on CD. On January 19, 1998, he announced the end of sales activities known in the Amiga sector.

Fred Fish worked at Cygnus Solutions before joining Be Inc. in 1998. In the last years of his life, he fulfilled a dream to sail the seven seas.

Fred Fish died at his home in Idaho.
