Fred Lonberg-Holm

Fred Lonberg -Holm ( born October 1, 1962 in Delaware) is an American cellist.

Life and work

Lonberg -Holm grew up in Wilmington in Delaware, where he studied classical cello at the age of ten. After high school he moved to New York City, where he studied cello with Ardyth Alton and Orlando Cole and composition with Morton Feldman and Bunita Marcus to leave then form at Mills College of Anthony Braxton. He worked with various ensembles including the Quartet PEEP, Anthony Braxton's Creative Orchestra, Anthony Coleman Selfhaters and God Is My Co - Pilot and saxophonist John Zorn.

In the late 1990s he moved to Chicago. He was a member of the Trio Troppo and led the Light Box Orchestra and the group Pillow ( with Michael Zerang, Liz Payne, Ben Vida and Michael Colligan ). In addition, he also worked with Ken Vandermark, Jim O'Rourke, Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, Tony Malabys Cello Trio, Joe McPhee's Survival Unit III, the Noise Jazz Band The Flying Luttenbachers and Kevin Drumm and Axel Dörner. In addition to his own projects, he works annually to approximately ten jazz, rock and avant-garde albums.
