Fred M. MacLean

Fred Merrill MacLean ( born July 9, 1898 in North Dakota, † June 3, 1976 in Los Angeles ) was an American production designer in film.

Life

Fred M. MacLean, son of a Canadian and a U.S. citizen, worked as a set designer in Hollywood from 1933, where he was taken under contract at Warner Brothers. Throughout his career, he worked with directors such as Howard Hawks, William Wyler, Raoul Walsh, John Huston, George Cukor and George Stevens. In 1942, he was first nominated Best Production Design for the Howard Hawks film Sergeant York in the category. He received further nominations for The Adventures of Mark Twain ( The Adventures of Mark Twain, 19441 ) and George Stevens ' The Greatest Story Ever Told ( The Greatest Story Ever Told, 1965). From 1954 he also came several times when U.S. television used. He died in 1976 at the age of 77 years in Los Angeles.
