Fred Upton

Frederick Stephen "Fred" Upton ( born April 23, 1953 in St. Joseph, Berrien County, Michigan) is an American politician. Since 1987 he represents the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Fred Upton first attended the Shattuck School in Faribault (Minnesota) and then studied until 1975 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Between 1976 and 1980 he was on the staff of Congressman David Stockman. Between 1981 and 1985 Upton worked for the federal budget authority (Office of Management and Budget ). Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1986 he was in the fourth electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Mark D. Siljander on January 3, 1987. After twelve elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. Since 1993 he is representing as the successor of Milton Robert Carr the sixth district of his home state. In the elections of 2012 he was confirmed in 55% of the vote. So that he could take on 3 January 2013, a further two -year term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Congress, Upton was an opponent of health care reform by President Barack Obama. He is a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and two subcommittees.

With his wife Amy Fred Upton has two children. His niece is the photo model Kate Upton.
