Frederica von Stade

Frederica von Stade ( born June 1, 1945 in Somerville, New Jersey) is an American opera singer (mezzo- soprano).

Biography

Frederica von Stade, known within the family Flicka, studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York. In 1970 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera and a year later she sang Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro at the Santa Fe Opera. Together with Kiri Te Kanawa she wowed the audience. Over the next few years, Frederica von Stade sang at all the great opera stages of the world. At the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City (2002), she sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
