Frederick Broome

Sir Frederick Napier Broome KCMG ( born November 18, 1842 in Canada, † November 26, 1896 in London, England ) was a British colonial administrator.

Biography

Broome was an administrator in the British colonial administration and was on December 31, 1878 to April 4, 1879 for the first time appointed acting governor of Mauritius and exercised the office of governor of the successor of George Ferguson Bowen between 9 December 1880 and the May 5, 1883.

Following this, he was on June 2, 1883 Governor of Western Australia and held this position for over six years until 21 December 1889. During this time, the personal peerage he was awarded in 1884 as a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George, so that it is henceforth allowed to call Sir.

Most recently, he was on 19 August 1891 until his death Governor of Trinidad and Tobago.

Broome was married from 1865 until his death with the writer Mary Anne Barker.
