Frederick F. Houser

Frederick Francis Houser ( born November 14, 1904 in Los Angeles, California; † 25 December 1989) was an American politician. Between 1943 and 1947 he was Deputy Governor of the State of California.

Career

Frederick Houser, the son of a judge, graduated from Garfield Grammar School and then in 1922 the Alhambra High School. Until 1926 he studied at the University of California at Los Angeles. After a subsequent law degree from Harvard University and his 1930 was admitted to the bar he began in Los Angeles and then to work in the Alhambra in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1931 and 1933 he sat in the California State Assembly. In the years 1932, 1934 and 1936 he applied unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. From 1939 to 1943 he was again at the State Parliament.

Houser was elected in 1942 on the side of Earl Warren to the Lieutenant Governor of California. This post he held 1943-1947. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1944 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. Senate. From 1946 he was a judge at the Superior Court of his state. Since 1942, he also served as a director of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Alhambra. He was also a member of numerous other associations and organizations. For some time he taught at Harvard political science. He died on 25 December 1989.
