Frederick Grace

Frederick "Fred" Grace (* February 29, 1884 in Edmonton, Middlesex, † July 23, 1964 in Ilford, Essex ) was a British boxer.

Before the Olympics in London in 1908 Grace was an outsider, because earlier he had not won a single title. The basis for his surprising victory of the Olympic quarterfinals, where he defeated favorites Matt Wells on points. The semi-finals he could skip with a bye in the final and he also sat down on points against his compatriot Frederick Spiller by.

Then Grace won the English league title four times 1909-1920. His Olympic victory, he could not repeat in 1912, since then, boxing was banned in Sweden. In Antwerp in 1920 he lost in the first round to eventual Olympic champion Samuel Mosberg.

Almost his entire professional life Grace worked as an engineer for heating systems. He died at the age of 80 years when he was run over while walking by a car.
