Frederick, Hereditary Prince of Denmark

Friedrich, Prince of Denmark and Norway ( born October 11, 1753 Copenhagen, † December 7, 1805 at Amalienborg Palace ) was the son of King Frederick V of Denmark and his second wife Juliane von Braunschweig- Wolfenbüttel.

Life

Frederick was the central figure of the opposition against Count Struensee and capable member of the government for its insane half-brother Christian VII After the fall Struensee 1772, he was appointed official regent, while the actual rulers in Denmark his mother Juliane Marie and his former teacher Ove Høegh - Guldberg were. After the takeover of power by Friedrich VI. 1784 was his political career, however, to an end and he lived as a private citizen until his death in the first Christiansborg Palace after it was burnt down on 26 February 1794 in Amalienborg Palace and Castle Sorgenfri.

Prince Frederick married in 1774 Sophie Friederike ( 1758-1794 ), daughter of Prince Ludwig of Mecklenburg. They had the following children:
