Frederick I, Duke of Anhalt

Leopold Friedrich Franz I. Nikolaus von Anhalt ( born April 29, 1831 in Dessau, † January 24, 1904 in Ballenstedt ) from the house of Ascanians was as Frederick I 1871-1904 Duke of Anhalt.

Life

Frederick was the son of Duke Leopold IV of Anhalt- Dessau and Princess Friederike of Prussia ( 1796-1850 ). He studied in Bonn and Geneva, joined in 1851 as first lieutenant in the 1st Guards Regiment of Foot of the Prussian Army in Potsdam and held since 1853 in Dessau on.

With the extinction of the Bernburger line in 1863, the territory of the Principality of Anhalt- Bernburg was combined with the Duchy of Anhalt- Dessau. The result was the new Duchy of Anhalt Dessau capital. Frederick's father then reigned as Leopold I, Duke of Anhalt.

1864 Frederick took the rod of his brother, Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia, at the Schleswig campaign 's part. In 1867 he was Lieutenant-General à la suite of the army and took part in 1870/71 at the Franco-German War. Here Friedrich took part in the Siege of Toul, the battles of Beaumont and Sedan. For Mont Valérien he was awarded the Iron Cross Second Class.

He took part in his father's representative to the imperial proclamation in Versailles on 18th January 1871.

When his father died on May 22, 1871, Frederick succeeded him in the government over the Duchy of Anhalt united states, the former principality of Anhalt- Dessau, Anhalt- Köthen and Anhalt- Bernburg. Kaiser Wilhelm I appointed Frederick on August 16, 1876 Chief of Infantry Regiment No. 93, after he had been three years earlier promoted to general of infantry. He was also a Knight of the Black Eagle and owner of the Red Eagle Order, First Class with swords and the Grand Cross of the Belgian Order of Leopold.

Frederick I died On 24 January 1904. Was succeeded by his son Frederick II

Marriage and issue

On April 22, 1854, he married Princess Antoinette of Saxe- Altenburg ( born April 17, 1838 in Bamberg, † October 13, 1908 in Berchtesgaden ), daughter of Prince Edward of Saxe- Altenburg ( † 1852). From this marriage the following children were born:
