Frederick III, Duke of Upper Lorraine

Friedrich III. (* 1020, † 1033 ) was Count of Bar and duke of Upper Lorraine. He was the son of Frederick II ( † 1026) and Matilda of Swabia, and grandson and successor of Dietrich I ( † 1026/27 ).

Little is known about his time as a Duke, not even the name of the regent for the minor Duke survives. He died in 1033 unmarried and childless. His aunt Gisela of Swabia, wife of Emperor Conrad II, took his two sisters Sophie, who inherited the county bar, and Beatrix to himself.

Emperor Conrad II was Upper Lotharingia a cousin, Gotzelo, who was already Duke of Lower Lorraine, whereby the two duchies were united for a few years back.
