Frederick IX, Count of Hohenzollern

Frederick IX. of Hohenzollern († 1377/9 ), called the Old or the Black Earl, was a Count of Hohenzollern.

Life

Friedrich was the elder son of Count Frederick VIII of Zollern 1339 and followed his older brother Fritzli II as Count of Hohenzollern.

He closed Zollern - Zollern on July 27, 1342 with the Schalk Burger line from a Senioratsvertrag. This has been determined that the elder of the two lines Zollern- Zollern and Zollern- Schalksburg should decide on the award of zollerischen fief. Friedrich commanded a greater military power and, therefore, was captain of the Lions Federal, a leading noble connection.

In 1344, he shared with his younger brother Friedrich, named the Strasbourg, the country and founded the Black Count's line. The line died in 1412 and Frederick X. already off again. Members of the Strasbourg line of his brother later discovered the Counts and Princes of Hohenzollern- Sigmaringen and Hohenzollern - Hechingen.
