Frederick Louis, Hereditary Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin

Friedrich Ludwig, Duke of Mecklenburg [- Schwerin ] ( born June 13, 1778 in Ludwig pleasure; † November 29, 1819 ) was a member of the house of Mecklenburg, from 1785 Prince, 1815 Heir Apparent part of the country Mecklenburg -Schwerin and fought as a lieutenant general against Napoleon's troops.

Life

Friedrich Ludwig came from the line of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Mecklenburg Princely House. He was the eldest son of the Duke and later Grand Duke Friedrich Franz I (1756-1837) and his wife Princess Louise of Saxe- Gotha ( 1756-1808 ).

Under his open-minded and art-loving mother of tutelage the education of the prince was in different hands. With the accession to the throne of his father he became crown prince in 1785 in Schwerin 's country part of Mecklenburg.

Friedrich Ludwig was diplomatically active in the Napoleonic era. When the Duchy of Swedish Pomerania interested, he traveled to Paris and to the princes convened by Napoleon in Erfurt. The diplomatic efforts to acquire Swedish Pomerania took the reports of despatched to Paris Oberhof Master of Lützow According to 1813.

The influence of Czar Alexander I and the consistent national attitude of his father brought the Congress of Vienna ( September 18, 1814 to June 9, 1815 sitting ) the rank increase or harmonization of laws of both ( ruling ) Dukes of Mecklenburg as Grand Duke of Mecklenburg. Friedrich Ludwig took part in the congress.

Hereditary Prince Friedrich Ludwig would certainly be long forgotten were it not for some portraits and the remains of his library in Rostock. While he yet died before his father (shortly after completion of 41 years of age), he never came to the throne. Friedrich Ludwig was buried in Helenen Paulownen Mausoleum, which was built from 1804 to 1806 according to plans by Joseph Ramee in Ludwig 's content.

Marriages and descendants

On October 22, 1799, he married in Gatchina near St. Petersburg, the Russian Grand Duchess Helena Pavlovna Romanova ( 1784-1803 ), the second daughter of the murdered Tsar Paul in 1801 and Princess Sophie Dorothee of Württemberg; and the sister of his successor Alexander I. From the union had two children:

  • Paul Friedrich (1800-1842), Grand Duke of Mecklenburg -Schwerin ∞ 1822 Princess Alexandrine of Prussia
  • Maria Luise Friederike (1803-1862) ∞ 1825 Hereditary Prince and later Duke George of Saxony -Altenburg

1808 from an affair Friedrich Ludwig with Luise Charlotte Ahrens in Ludwigslust born a son. This was named Friederich Eduard Carl Plüschow after the nearby mills in Greve summer residence of the ducal family, castle Plüschow.

On July 1, 1810, he married Princess Karoline Luise in Weimar ( 1786-1816 ), the only surviving daughter of the Grand Duke Karl August of Saxe- Weimar -Eisenach and Princess Louise of Hesse -Darmstadt. From the union three children were born:

On April 3, 1818, he married the Princess Auguste Friederike in Homburg ( 1776-1871 ), a daughter of the Landgrave Friedrich V of Hesse- Homburg and the Princess Caroline of Hesse -Darmstadt. The marriage remained childless.
