Frederick Peake

Frederick Gerard Peake CMG, CBE (* June 12, 1886, † March 30, 1970 ) was a British officer.

Life

Peake was born the son of a lieutenant-general of the British Army. After an unsuccessful bid for the Royal Navy peak was accepted at the Military Academy of the Army Sandhurst. In 1906 he was seconded as Second Lieutenant to the Duke of Wellington 's Regiment in British India. In the spring of 1914 he was transferred to a special initiative to Egypt. In 1915 he commanded as a captain a camel company. In 1916 he took part in the suppression of a rebellion in Darfur as well as battles against Bulgarian troops to Salonika. In the wake of the Arab revolt Peake commanded the camel corps of the armed forces of TE Lawrence.

After the war he was transferred to Transjordan, where he first held the command of the local gendarmerie. In 1920 at the instigation of the founding of the Arab Legion. Peake commanded the unit until his retirement in March 1939. Peake settled after his departure in Scotland. During the Second World War Peake worked in civil defense. He died on 30 March 1970.

Peake was married and had a daughter.
