Frederick Stafford

Frederick Stafford (actually: Friedrich Strobel von Stein, born March 11, 1928 in Czechoslovakia; † July 28, 1979 in Lugano ) was an Austrian actor.

Life

Stafford worked as a hockey player and participated in the Czechoslovak swimming preliminaries for the Olympic Summer Games 1948. Shortly before the Communist takeover, he settled in Australia where he worked as miners, train drivers and truck drivers.

In 1962 he received a doctorate in chemistry and became an employee at the company Bristol Meyers. In 1964 he met during a business trip to Bangkok, the German actress Marianne Hold know who was attending filming of The Diamond Hell on the Mekong. After only six days, the wedding took place. Hold retired after the birth of their son to Rome in the private life, while Strobl began its own acting career under the name Frederick Stafford.

In the 1960s, he was the star of numerous French and Italian agents and war films, among others in the series to the agent OSS 117 1968 Alfred Hitchcock gave him the leading role of the rated trends in familial and political conflicts agent Andre Devereaux in topaz. Stafford dominated here an all-star ensemble with co-stars as Michel Piccoli, Philippe Noiret, Claude Jade, Karin Dor and John Forsythe. After that, he continued to play in crime, especially in Italy. So he joined in 1974 one more time next to his daughter Claude Jade Topaz film in the thriller The Girl from the Via Condotti (La ragazza di via Condotti ) on. After this film he caused a stir briefly with his penultimate film, the werewolf thriller La lupa Mannara (1977). His last film was the thriller Hold -up (1977 ) with Nathalie Delon.

1976 Stafford ended his acting career and worked again as a businessman. He died in 1979 in a plane crash near Lugano. At the cemetery Witikon ( Zurich ), where his wife is buried, he found his final resting place.

His son is the singer born in 1964, Roderick Stafford.
