Frederick Wiseman

Frederick Wiseman ( born January 1, 1930 in Boston, USA) is an American film director.

Life

He worked after law school and military service as a lawyer in Paris. In 1959 he became a professor of law and medicine at Boston University. Since 1967 he works as a film director. He turned a variety of documentaries and produced two feature films. Besides Donn Alan Pennebaker, Robert Drew and Richard Leacock, he is considered an important pioneer of the American direct cinema.

In 1982 he was MacArthur Fellow. In spring 2012, Wiseman actively participated in the three-month exhibition industry of the Whitney Biennial in 2012.
