Frederick XII, Count of Hohenzollern

. Friedrich XII, called the Öttinger ( * before 1401, † 1443 ), was a member of the Swabian line of the Hohenzollern. His father was Friedrich XI. , Count of Hohenzollern, his brother and rival was Eitel Friedrich I.

Life

Frederick was faced with the situation that the Swabian Hohenzollern had already lost much of its importance due to separations of the line, division of territories and sale of real estate. In particular, the division of the state of 1402 reinforced this issue.

The inheritance was divided between the Öttinger I. and his brother Eitel Friedrich. The family seat of the Hohenzollern Burg Hohenzollern, Hechingen, the city and a mill remained in common ownership. The brothers lived in permanent inheritance disputes. Frederick's economic situation was tense. Sales of areas to the Counts of Württemberg could not establish the financial equilibrium. The house Württemberg was the largest competitor for power, and it was the zollernsche independence to preserve.

Dealing with Eitel Friedrich I escalated to the castle Zoller, when Frederick the imperial city of Rottweil overlaid with feud. Thus allied in 1422 the cities of the Swabian Cities with Eitel Friedrich I. and the Counts of Württemberg. Friedrich had to capitulate in 1423 after a ten -month-long siege of the castle by Zoller his opponents. King Sigismund had the castle and destroy as punishment ban, this build again.

About the Öttinger 1418 was the eight imposed by the Imperial High Court to Rottweil, after which he fled. 1426 to Eitel Friedrich I became reconciled with Frederick, but this has been held prisoner by the Countess Henriette of Montbéliard in 1428 / 29-1440. After Eitel Friedrich I. had died in 1439, the Öttinger once again came to the government before 1443 on a trip to Palestine died childless.

Frederick's widow Anna, nee von Schultz, had to apply for financial reasons, to the Count of Württemberg after the death of her husband. Württemberg had most of the former possessions of the Hohenzollerns. The financial situation of the family was very poor at that time.
