Frederico Westphalen is a city in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

1954 Frederico Westphalen received city rights. It is named after a German engineer who was responsible for the regional development and infrastructure. The city has about 26,000 inhabitants ( 2004) and is the seat of the Universidade Regional Integrada do Alto Uruguay e Missões (URI).
