Fredericton Express

Fredericton Express was a Canadian ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League from Fredericton, New Brunswick. The venue of Fredericton was the Aitken Centre.

History

Fredericton Express was founded in 1981 as a franchise of the American Hockey League. In the seven years of its existence it went into cooperation with the Quebec Nordiques and the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League. In its first season, missed Fredericton still qualify for the playoffs. In the following season they reached the second playoff round, where they were subject to the Maine Mariners in the best- of-seven series with 2:4. After three years in which they failed one after the other against the Nova Scotia Voyageurs, Sherbrooke Canadiens and Adirondack Red Wings in the first playoff round, they missed in the 1986/87 season for the second time in its history the playoffs.

The last season of Frederiction Express was also the most successful. The team won first in the first playoff round with 4-2 win over the Sherbrooke Canadiens in round 2 against the Maine Mariners. Only in the finals to the Calder Cup Frederic Auditions was slowed winning streak. The Hershey Bears are defeated, with four defeats in four games.

Following this season, the team was relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they subsequently as Halifax Citadel took up the game operating in the AHL.
