Free State Cheetahs

The Free State Cheetahs ( engl. the Free State Cheetahs, from sponsorship reasons referred to as Vodacom Free State Cheetahs, Afrikaans, formerly called only Free State or Vrystaat: Vrystaat Jagluiperds ) are a South African rugby union team. She plays in the Currie Cup and their game operation is organized by the Free State Rugby Union ( FSRU ). The home games are played at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. The Association provides players for the franchise Team Central Cheetahs playing in the Super 14 international members.

History

The Orange Free State Rugby Union, today the FSRU, was founded in 1895 and is one of the oldest regional organizations in South Africa. The first final in the Currie Cup was reached, however, only in 1973 and lost there against Northern Transvaal. In 1976, the first of four victories in the years that get some more finals. This was followed by seasons, in which the Free State Cheetahs failed to match these successes. Only in 2005 again succeeded in winning the Currie Cup. The following year, they shared the profits with the Blue Bulls after the final match ended in a draw was 28:28. 2007 succeeded the third win in a row, in 2008 they failed in the semifinals.
