Freeheld

Free hero is an American documentary short film from the year 2007. The film, which deals with the discrimination of homosexual partnerships, was honored in 2008 with the Academy Award for Best Short Documentary.

Action

The film deals with the case of the police officer Laurel Hester, who suffered after 23 years of service from lung cancer. Hester struggled in her last year that her partner Stacie would receive pension benefits after Hester's death, are entitled to a male partner. Cynthia Wade shows demonstrations of LGBT activists, interviews with Laurel Hester and Stacie and excerpts from public meetings that deal with Hester's case.
