Freeze-frame shot

As Freeze Frame is referred to in the film as a stylistic device to freeze a particular frame, so to create an effect as if the movie stopped. For the desired frame of the camera negative is copied several times in succession in the optical printer.

It is known primarily from various action and kung fu films of the 1970s as well as the television series NCIS, in which also those frozen images are displayed in black and white.
