Freienbessingen

Freienbessingen is a municipality in the Thuringian Kyffhauserkreis.

Location

Freienbessingen lies in the fertile north-east on the edge of the Thuringian Basin Heilinger heights.

History

A mound grave of Baalberge culture is the bump between Mittelsömmern, Blankenburg and Freienbessingen. In this square later stood the gallows. The first documentary mention of the place was in the year 731 in Freienbessingen is first mentioned as a deed of gift from the year 979 considered in some surrounding places (eg Wolferschwenda ) mentioned. South of Freienbessingen was in the Heilinger heights a missile base of the NVA. He was adopted shortly by the army in the fall of 1990, the military installation built the former NVA soldiers still on. Then the " forest settlement " became a refugee center, which has been dissolved in 2007 and demolished afterwards.
