Freienwil (Swiss German: frɛjəʋi ˌ ː l) is a municipality in the district of Baden in the canton of Aargau. It is located about three kilometers north of the main town district of Baden.

Geography

The village is located in a south-facing side of the Surbtals. The running from south to north valley forms a shallow groove on the edge of the Jura mountains belonging Siggenbergs. The land rises to the west of the Hörndli ( 624 m above sea level. M. ), a spur of Siggenbergs. The Buel (526 m above sea level. M. ) forms the boundary to the east adjacent valley of honor things. History

The first mention of Friginwillare place in the year 1230. The village name comes from the Old High German Friginwilari and means " farm estate of the Free ". Landowners in the High and Late Middle Ages were, among others, the monasteries of Einsiedeln, St. Blaise and Wettingen as well as some citizens of the town of Baden. The high jurisdiction was exercised by the Habsburgs.
