Freimettigen

Freimettigen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Freimettigen is located on 675 m above sea level. M., 1.5 km south of Konolfingen and 13 km north of the city of Thun (air line). The farming village extends a scenic location on the eastern edge of the valley of the slightly increased Chise, leaving the valley widening of Konolfingen here, at the western foot of Short Mountain, in a pre-Alpine hills.

The area of ​​2.95 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the pre-Alpine hills east of the Aare valley. The area is crossed from north to south of the Chise in a wide valley. On the western side of the valley of the Dessikoferwald belongs (up to 760 m above sea level. M. ) on Lochberg to Freimettigen. To the east of the municipality of soil over the open slope extends to the forest heights of Short Mountain, where on the Near dance floor with 1'008 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Freimettigen is achieved. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 30 % of forest and woody plants and 64% agriculture.

To Freimettigen include Hofgruppe Dessikofen (660 m above sea level. M. ) in the Valley of Chise as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Freimettigen are Konolfingen, Niederhünigen, Linden, Oberdiessbach and Häutligen.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1282 under the name Vrimuetingen. Later, the names appeared Frimitingen, Frimeitingen ( 1389 ), Frimentingen ( 1411 ), Frimmuttingen ( 1529) and Frymettigen ( 1580). The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Frimuot and accordingly is with the people of Frimuot.

Since the Middle Ages Freimettigen belonged to the rule Hünigen. The monasteries Interlaken and woman fountain owned land within the municipality. The sovereignty over the area was in 1406 by the Counts of Kyburg to Bern, and Freimettigen was henceforth subordinated to the district court Konolfingen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), the village belonged to the district during the Helvetic Höchstetten and from 1803 to Oberamt Konolfingen, which was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. Freimettigen does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Oberdiessbach.

Population

With 449 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Freimettigen one of the small communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 94.1 % are German, 2.8 % and 1.5 % speak English and Spanish speaking (as of 2000). The population of Freimettigen amounted in 1850 to 227 residents in 1900 to 207 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range between 200 and 290 people. Since 1970 (258 inhabitants) a significant population increase was recorded.

Policy

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 30.9 %, BDP 16.4 %, EPP 13.4 %, SP 10.6 %, EDU 9.2 %, GPS 7.8 %, FDP 5.0 %, glp 2.6 %, AL 1.5 %, PNOS 1.2 %, CVP 0.2 %.

Economy

Freimettigen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the dairy and livestock have an important place in the economic structure of the population. Some other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. Freimettigen is local municipality wastewater treatment plant Upper Kiesental. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Konolfingen and in the Bern -Thun.

Traffic

The community is located off the main roads, but is easily accessible from Konolfingen. The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern- Thun) is located about 8 km from the town center. Freimettigen itself has no connection to the network of public transport, the bus stop on the railway line Stalden Burgdorf- Thun - Konolfingen is only at a distance of approximately 500 m.
